1st (kick-off) Meeting of the Thematic Working Group on the Practical and Technical Implementation of the PCC Prüm Agreement – Automated Exchange of Dactyloscopic Data
Ljubljana, Slovenia - The inaugural meeting of the dactyloscopic subgroup, held on 17-18 April 2024 under the auspices of the Slovenian PCC SEE Chairmanship-in-Office, brought together key dactyloscopic and IT experts from forensic departments/units from 11 PCC SEE Contracting Parties. The meeting focused on key legal, organisational and technical aspects relevant for the non-EU PCC SEE Contracting Parties to progress towards their practical implementation. Additionally, it served as a platform for sharing experiences, best practices, and lessons learned, nurturing the further development of a dynamic network among key forensic and IT experts within the PCC SEE community.
During the meeting, the group had a closer look into the evaluation procedure that a non-EU Signatory of the PCC Prüm Agreement must first undergo before becoming operational. This was applied in a collaborative group exercise, pairing EU and non-EU Contracting Parties, which facilitated self-assessments by the latter and generated recommendations for their sequential steps towards operationalisation in automated dactyloscopic data exchange.
On the margins of the meeting, the participants also had the opportunity to visit the Department for Dactyloscopy at the Slovenian National Forensic Laboratory.
